Every month at our Pilates Studio in Singapore, we focus on a specific body part or joint so that no muscle group is neglected. This balanced approach helped our members to prevent muscle imbalances and accelerate functional performance, leading to lowered risk of injury and improved posture.
This August 2024, we are focusing on single sided exercises. Single sided exercises help to:
(1) Improve Muscle Imbalance – most people have a dominant side that is naturally stronger and more coordinated and the muscle group appears bigger. Single sided exercises force each side to work independently, allowing our members to focus on strengthening the weaker side.
(2) Enhance Core Stability and Balance – a strong, stable core is essential for overall movement efficiency and injury prevention whereas good balance helps in daily activities and sports, reducing the risk of falls and related injuries.
(3) Increase Functional Fitness – Single-sided exercises improve the ability to perform daily tasks like carrying groceries, doing housework, lifting a child, or participating in activities that require single-limb actions.
(4) Reduce Risk of Injury – Single sided exercises help to ensure whole body is equally strong on both sides since imbalances and weaknesses in the body often lead to compensations, increasing the risk of strains and injuries.
(5) Boost Athletic Performance – Many activities and sports require quick changes in direction and unilateral movements. These may include dancing, gardening, carrying a child or heavy groceries as you go shopping, or any types of sports. By training these movements, one can improve their performance and react more effectively.
